now that the stage hand strike is off, i’ve had a few people start hyping me on the new addams family musical that is slated to start (pre-broadway) next year. the brand new company producing it, elephant eye, is apparently an “unusual initiative that partners 12 nonprofits and three commercial presenting orgs,” an innovative-sounding venture, combining the big money of new york and the world-weary wisdom of regional theaters. i’m curious to see how it works—they are also working on a musical version of evangelical spoof saved and another about bruce lee. if all goes well, they could provide a great model for the way that non-profit and commercial arts organizations can feed each other.
sidenote: i love charles addams’ work to an almost unhealthy degree.
